October is Black History Month. This national celebration aims to raise awareness of and recognise the achievements and contributions of Black people throughout history. There are a number of upcoming careers events for Black students and graduates that you might like to attend, which we’ve listed here. We’ve also included the details of some exciting opportunities that you might be interested in.


Enterprise Rent-A-Car: Inspiring Future Leaders Webinars

Every Friday in October | 11am-12pm | Online
Enterprise Rent-A-Car are hosting a series of weekly online webinars, recognising and celebrating the achievements of their Black employees. Designed to inspire, support and nurture the leaders of tomorrow, their online events will host some of their most successful Black colleagues, who in turn will share the stories and experiences that have shaped their lives, and have led to their personal and professional achievements.

HSBC UK Black Heritage Insight Event

Wednesday 13th October | 2.30-4.00pm | Online
Delivered by current graduates and recruiters, this event is primarily aimed at Black Heritage students and recent graduates who are interested in learning about a career in the banking and financial services industry. During the event, you will get an insight into a day in the life of a graduate, and gain hints and tips for the application process – this includes bespoke sessions on identifying your strengths for interviews, as well as finding out more about the virtual assessment centre experience from graduates who have recently undertaken them.

Black Tech Fest

Tuesday 19th to Thursday 21st October | Online
This is a three-day digital experience that brings together innovators, creators, and future and present leaders to celebrate Black culture and explore innovation. The topics covered will range from inclusive finance to landing a job in tech. There will also be diverse speakers from across the globe joining the event to share their stories and provide tangible advice.

HSBC Black Heritage Panel Discussion with Embrace ERG

Wednesday 27th October | 2.30-3.30pm | Online
HSBC, in collaboration with HSBC’s Embrace Employee Resource Group, have organised a Black Heritage Panel Discussion to give you an opportunity to hear from Black Heritage graduates and senior leaders about their career journeys. Find out about how they started their career, their journey with HSBC, and any hints and tips they have for those of you at the start of your careers. You will also be able to ask the panel members questions.

RateMyPlacement Black Heritage in Business Virtual Event

Wednesday 17th November | 12-6pm | Online
This event is an opportunity to meet senior business leaders of Black Heritage backgrounds from companies that don’t just champion diversity and inclusion, but put it into practice. You’ll get to ask them any questions you might have, hear about their personal experiences, and discover exactly how they are promoting equality in the world of business. Employers attending include University of Law, J.P. Morgan, PwC, BDO, GSK and Sage.

#10000BlackInterns aim to help transform the horizons and prospects of young Black people in the United Kingdom by offering paid work experience across a wide range of industries, as well as world-class training and development.

Equal Engineers Pathway Programme

This is a 12-month programme which will run alongside the academic year. Key elements of it will include:

  • In-person careers insights and employability workshop sessions
  • An online programme which will support you with work readiness, emotional intelligence, employability, and interpersonal skills development
  • A mentoring programme which will pair engineers from the industry with engineering students
  • Work experience, placement, internship and graduate opportunities from engineering and technology partner organisations.
